It's here that you can learn about an amazing engineering feat that took place in 1929. The building of the Bagnell Dam by the Union Electric Company of St. Louis, which cost $30 million, was the last major dam to be constructed in America solely with private funds.   • How big is willmore Lodge?

    Covering 6,500 square feet and featuring an Adirondack-style design, the lodge originally featured 29 rooms. Highlights included a two-story living area, a dining room with an oil-burning furnace, a kitchen, a bar with an ice-maker, and servant's quarters. It even had a state-of-the-art air conditioning unit.

  • Why was the Lodge built?

    During the construction of the Bagnell Dam, Union Electric had the lodge built. Completed in 1930, the log structure was always referred to as one that would be used for administrative purposes. But with all its amenities, in reality it was more of an upscale entertainment retreat for the head honchos.
